Porcupine Treeis a Britishband formed in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. During the course of the band's seventeen-year history, they have at times incorporated psychedelic rock, alternative, ambient, techno, and, most recently, metal, progressive rockand post-rockinto their unique style of music. Porcupine Tree started out as a fake band (in the style of Gorillaz, though the two share almost nothing in common musically). In actuality, the "band" was just multi-instrumentalist Steven Wilson. Wilson's first two efforts, Tarquin's Seaweed Farm(1989) and (1990), were both released on cassette tapes.
